Product Recommendations: Vitamins and Supplements

To kick off my new blog series, I felt it best to start with some of my favorite vitamins and supplements.  Anyone who knows me knows that I am always searching for and trying new things.  I take care of my body - both on and off the court and as a tennis player, I am often faced with playing long hours in the grueling heat.  This can wreck havoc on my body if I am not properly prepared.  The vitamins and supplements below are a part of my regular routine and have given me great benefit.  Please note, though, that you should consult with your physician before making any changes in your routine.

I personally like the USANA multi-vitamin tear packets because of their quality and convenience. When traveling to tournaments, it simplifies what you need to keep track of for your matches. You simply take one packet in the morning and one in the evening. It’s important to find what works for your body and typically I test everything thoroughly before it ever becomes a tournament routine.

Solgar Iron-Free Formula VM-75 Multi-Vitamin

I like mixing up the vitamins I take and Solgar has been around for a very long time. It’s a great multi- formula that I first used over 30 years ago! They now have a VM Prime for 50+,  which is great for seniors.

The Ultimate Omega is a regular for me because of the high standards of quality in all of their products. Usually when playing in national events or extreme conditions, I will double up on them for a few days.

This is something I alternate with Nordic Naturals and use in my smoothies. They give body to the drink and are a great source of fiber.

I like the MyoHeath as one of my drinks while playing. It has a refreshing taste and I have found that replacement drinks protect against fatigue and cramping, which are non issues for me now. When I was younger, though, and played a great deal of tennis in the Florida heat, I had issues with cramping and learned a painful lesson: stay away from Gatorade, which resulted in cramps every time I drank it.

I like the plant derived mineral products. For me, changing up my supplements seems to work well. I only take a few and constantly rotate them around. This formula seems best when I am competing for long periods in the heat.

This past year, I switched over to a ketogenic diet and learned about the many benefits of this high quality source of fatty acids. They are quickly absorbed by the body and metabolized as fuel.

Keep and eye out for my next article, where I will highlight some of my favorite shakes and hydration drinks.  In the meantime, though, feel free to comment below with your favorite vitamins and supplements.  I am always looking for recommendations and love to learn from your experiences!
